teecup limited: How much is the charge for writing a 500-word article, blog post or sponsored review?

There have been numerous standards published online on what should be and how much freelance writers should charge for their work.

Sad to say, there is a huge divide between the ideal rate and the actual rate that freelancers receive.

It's about time that we set the record straight, and find out how much or how little money you can really make from online writing.

If you have worked online or have received monetary compensation for writing web content (general articles, blog posts, sponsored reviews, short essays), can you participate in the poll question please and select the figure that best applies to you? The poll question is found at the bottom-most part of the sidebar and appears immediately after the Classic Subscription Box.

The million-dollar question is: On the average, how much were you paid for writing a 500-word article? The word count is approximately equivalent to one page of content.

Hi Teecup. Good question. I think writing sponsored reviews on your own blog are paid a lot more. I see that many write articles for 0.7 - 1 cent per word. I have also accepted a few jobs close to this rate (when still a newbie) but lately I have shun away from freelance article writing especially those that are priced so low.

By the way, the poll below, does it also refer to sponsored reviews? or just plain 500-word articles?

Hi Chin... Thanks for dropping by :) Yes, sponsored reviews and blog posts are included... Basically any write-up that is about 500 words long.

The object of the survey is to arrive at general figures, although yes, there are certain types of writings that are paid more. I know for one that sales copies and press releases cost more than the regular article.

I made my vote but it should be that you can make several choices because sponsored reviews are paid bigger most of the time while writing article is somewhere between 0.6 - 1.

I think it depend on how much the work is done. Sometimes, the quality of work is about to be seen by the people that needs to pay the article you made.

Some clients do determine the final charge after seeing the output, but it's standard practice to agree on a price first before work commences :)

Update: The poll has ended. According to survey results, most freelancers charge anywhere between $5 and $10 for writing a regular 500-word article.

Actually it depends on what your employer agreed on your total salary on making 500 words article.
